Colour Therapy – 5 of the most popular and why.

What is colour therapy I hear you say?! What do flower colours mean. It’s not just the exquisite beauty of flowers that makes us smile and lifts our mood immediately, it’s the colour of these blooms that also evoke our emotional response.

Here’s a list of our top 5 favourites and what they can convey for you.

RED   The colour of passion and desire, so it’s no wonder you see so many red roses on Valentine’s Day!!

YELLOW   The colour of sunshine and happiness, yellow is traditionally used as a sign of friendship…and where would we be without our friends?!  Our most popular bestie bouquet – the Sunflower Bouquet of course!

BLUE/PURPLE/INDIGO   Like the ocean, these shades have such a calming influence.  Possibly the perfect shade for someone who needs to slow down in their daily lives.  Not only does blue calm worries, it also signals support, making it appropriate for a grieving or sick friend.

PINK  This one’s for all the girly girls out there.  A delicate colour used to indicate playfulness, charm, sweetness and femininity.  Definitely an all rounder, from birthdays to anniversaries and everything in between.

GREEN  Of course this one made our list.  The universal colour for life, nature, energy, growth and harmony.  With so many textures and hues in green flowers, there is something so soothing and comforting about Mother Nature’s gorgeous gifts.

So when you’re unsure of what to choose, tell us a little of your intentions and together we will create a magnificent bouquet that says all that you want in beauty and colour!

What is a Duchenne smile?

Well before we get to how – I’m sure you’re wondering what a Duchenne smile is?!  I know I was, but upon learning of what a Duchenne smile is, the how made perfect sense!  It’s called the power of flowers.

A Duchenne smile is, considered by psychologists, to be the sole indicator of true enjoyment.  This smile is distinctive, with the mouth turning up, the cheeks lifting, and the eye sockets crinkling to create crow’s feet. It’s the smile most of us recognize as the most authentic expression of happiness.

So what can give us that much enjoyment in a single moment?!  I see it every time I deliver flowers.  The surprise and delight to start with, and then comes the swooning over these perfect specimens of nature.

Fresh floral arrangements and bouquets give more than one of our five senses pleasure. The fragrance of a flower is the perfume of nature. It is known that a fragrance can anchor a memory for life. The moment a flower delivery is made, the fragrance lingers in the air creating pure enjoyment like no other. To see and feel the beauty of the many different textures and shapes of these blooms is a breathtaking look at the delicate preciousness of our natural world. Different colours conjure up an array of emotions – it’s called colour therapy. There are also many blooms that can be dried and preserved as an everlasting reminder of a precious moment in time shared between the two of you.  This is something that I’m sure will make them smile again whenever they think of it.

Flowers also have a long-term positive effect on our mood.  Scientific study participants reported feeling less depressed, anxious and agitated after receiving flowers, demonstrating a higher sense of enjoyment and life satisfaction.

Smiling is also very contagious, wouldn’t you say?  When you see someone smiling, you naturally feel positive emotions for that person.  So, I guess you could say its a win/win when giving a bouquet of blooms. Flowers for an occasion, or flowers for no occasion at all – every time you give a bouquet of flowers, is a moment of true happiness and connection for you both!

Happy Birthday Leo ♌

Happy Birthday to our Leo friends!  Leo’s are the star sign born between July 23-August 22 and are ruled by the Sun, so it stands to reason that their Leo’s birth flower is the bright and cheerful sunflower. Leos tend to see themselves as the leader-of-the-pack, and sunflowers tower over the rest of almost any garden. However, the connection between these two is more than stalk and petal deep. In many cultures globally, sunflowers are symbols of optimism and intelligence, two traits that are also characteristic of Leos.

Your Leo bestie also loves to protect the vulnerable and stick up for others, and they are the patron saint of underdogs! This makes them come off as proud, strong and kind all at the same time – it’s adorable. A Leo will command your attention and draw praise and admiration from you naturally, it’s just how this proud cat rolls.

So when thinking about how you might want to celebrate your friend’s birthday, just remember they love being pampered and their Fire sign element is warm and loving. They have a magnetic personality. We think we have just the right gift ideas for them.

What about the classic sunflower wrap – stem upon stem of these smiley sunnies to put into their favourite vase.  What about some adorable keepsakes to go with those sunnies?  Everyone knows this song – ‘You are my Sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grey’ – yes, we have an adorable You are my Sunshine music boxfor them to wind and hear this sweet tune whenever they wish!

SMILE 🙂  we are so sure they will with the elegant ‘Just to see you Smile’ gift box filled with all things sunshine and smiles!

Go ahead and choose your charity Mental Awareness Foundation or Womens Legal Service Qld.  Both are doing a stellar job of taking care of our community.  Then choose your gift for your Leo friend and get smiling!  Both you and your friend will have made a special connection AND we’re going to help these charities continue to do the amazing work that they do.

Wishing all the Leo’s out there a spectacular day and an even brighter year ahead!

Happy Birthday Cancerians, here’s your birth flower!

Happy Birthday to our beautiful Cancer friends!  Their birthday falls between 21st June and 22nd July.

What do we know about the loveable Cancer?!  They’re loyal, protective, intuitive and caring.

Cancers will do whatever it takes to help the ones they love, even turn their backs on their own beliefs or sense of judgment. Their strong ability to empathize with others is partly what makes the Cancer sign one of the most devoted in the zodiac. In addition to being loyal, Cancers are extraordinarily protective of loved ones. They deeply cherish family and close friends. Intuition is another key Cancer characteristic. Crabs tend to rely more on their intuition than on their practical or rational sense of judgment. Cancers are known for their kind and caring nature and are incredibly nurturing, an extension of their inherently emotional personality.

We know you’re thinking about them right now after reading everything about them above ?

So what flowers are the best gift for your beloved crab?  Their birth flower of course!

It’s the stunningly elegant, sophisticated charm of the white rose.  White roses signify peace, imagination, positivity, emotion, and purity.

From the simply sweet single bloom right through to the one or two dozen breathtakingly beautiful bouquet, your Cancer friend will absolutely adore your very thoughtful, very kind gesture.

Wishing you all many happy returns of your very special day.

How to show your heartfelt condolences with these three beautiful sympathy gift ideas.

At such a difficult time, showing your love and support is crutial for those who are grieving to know you’re there. Sadness over the loss of a loved one is inescapable, however, the emotional connection that you can make with them at this time, creates a loving bond that will continue to grow.
We can help you to emotionally connect with those you care for through the beauty of nature and some thoughtful gifting.

As the saying goes ‘when words fail, flowers speak’. Flower arrangements are a beautiful way of conveying your heartfelt sympathy and support during such a sad time. The grace and fragrance of blooms in the home can aid in the mourning process with just a glance at nature’s abundant beauty.
The flowers and colours that are appropriate for a sympathy flower arrangment for the home are best chosen for grace and elegance. Most popular being lilies, roses, orchids among other beautiful seasonal blooms, they should be kept to softer muted tones or pure white, in line with the sombre occasion.

Living gifts in the form of a peace lily or a phalaenopsis orchid are perfect for a more lasting tribute to their loved one. The spathiphilium lily or peace lily as it’s more well known as, is appropriate to suggest that the deceased is now ‘at peace’ and their memory will forever be with you. The phalaenopsis orchid is the best of both worlds – both flower and living plant. With their stunningly elegant blooms, in both white and shades of mauve and pink, on show for months, then can be pruned back in wait for the next season when their flowers will bloom again. Another reminder that their loved one is always with them.

Thoughtful keepsakes including our ever popular Comforting Condolences hamper which include the ‘In Loving Memory’book – truly, a gift for the grieving heart. The pages filled with quotations that bring care and compassion for today and hope and healing for tomorrow. We filled this basket also with the beautiful peace lily and a fragrant Ecoya candle to light in remembrance.

Whatever you choose to do for the ones you love, we are very sure they will always remember it.
While we know that you cannot heal their pain, being there to surround them with love so their heart can heal when its ready to is the beauty of human kind.

The health benefits of having besties!

Where would we be without our best friends? Our pal, our bestie, our partner in crime!   When we stop to recognise what a vital role they play in our overall well being, we cannot help but be grateful.

So let’s start there – gratitude.  One of the very best mood boosters there is. Doesn’t it make you smile just thinking about them and all the wonderful things you’ve done together?  Whether it’s reflecting on all the fun and laughter, or when they’ve really been there for us, holding our hand through the tough times, we feel truly blessed.  Both equally as important and something to be very, very thankful for.
Having a best friend boosts and strengthens strong emotional bonds.  We are social creatures, and going through life alone just isn’t what we’re supposed to do. We all want to feel as though we belong somewhere.  To feel safe, seen and loved is incredibly important to our emotional wellbeing. It’s knowing that you have a ‘2am friend’ – someone that you know will show up for you – whatever it is, whatever time it is.  These are the ties that bind us together, knowing we need not ever feel alone.
Being around our besties also has very real, very positive physical health benefits for us too. They have the capacity to increase important neurochemicals. When thinking about, talking to or being with them shifts us from negative to positive, there is a surge of feel-good chemicals such as dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin.  These famously happy hormones promote positive feelings like pleasure, happiness, and even love. These all contribute to the emotions of closeness, connection and happiness that come with gratitude. Who doesn’t love this feeling?!
I cannot tell you just how much I love and adore my bestie, and how she has enriched my life beyond measure, but I can tell you that I know it, and she knows it too.   It cannot be said enough, but on Best Friends Day 8th June, it most definitely should be!  Or perhaps shown with a small token of appreciation, that they’ll cherish and remember forever your kind words and special bond. Celebrating You and Sunshine are two that come to mind that are all about loving appreciation!

10 Days of Appreciation

Gratitude and appreciation go a very long way – not just felt by the recipient but the benefits extend to you as well. Not only will you both enjoy more intimate and connected relationships, gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, engagement and motivation, and improves overall mental well-being.

Gratitude is great for our brains too – gratitude can boost neurotransmitter serotonin and activate the brain stem to produce dopamine. Dopamine is our brain’s pleasure chemical. The more we think positive, grateful thoughts, the healthier and happier we feel.

It’s important to take a breath in this incredibly fast paced world, stop and acknowledge those beautiful people in your life that make it better, just by being in it. Here’s a little exercise for you to try.  We are calling it ’10 Days of Appreciation’.  It’s a thought provoker.  See who comes to mind when we ask these questions.  Spend the next 10 days thinking about who you’d love to share a moment of appreciation with.  Let’s get started.

Day 1 – who deserves a thank you?

Day 2 – who goes out of their way to be thoughtful?

Day 3 – who is great with kids – yours or someone else’s?

Day 4 – who are you feeling personally grateful for?

Day 5 – Who makes hard stuff seem easier?

Day 6 – who has inspired you to be better?

Day 7 – who do you call when you need help?

Day 8 – who is a compassionate caregiver?

Day 9 – who is your rock?

Day 10 – who gives you unconditional love?

Did you send a quick text message or a handwritten card in the mail to any of them? Was there someone whose name came up more than once? Maybe you’d like to let them know they are your sunshine. Or maybe just letting them know “You Make The World Better”!

What would you say to your bestie on Best Friends Day?

So what would you say to your bestie on Best Friends Day? This day celebrates that special person in your life you can always count on, in good times and bad, and truly, just by being with them, they make your world a better place. Best Friends Day is a great reason to stop for a moment and show how much you appreciate and cherish having them in your life.

Here’s what one of our beautiful keepsake books “Celebrating You (and the beautiful person you are)” has to say –

Here’s to you.  For your kind heart, your dazzling spirit, your generosity, your laugh, your glow.  It’s a celebration of the person you are.  Because you’re beautiful, inside and out.  Because you’re worth celebrating.

You have a radiance that’s all your own.

You add extraordinary to the everyday.

You have a kind and open heart.

You uplift others around you.

Your spirit comes through in everything you do.

You make time for the things that matter.

Your presence is a gift to the world.

You’re more than just a little brilliant.  Sometimes, you glow.

You are strong.  Even when you don’t feel that way.

You’re true to the best in others and the best in yourself.

You know when to create your own path.

You find adventure everywhere.

You set your mind to something and miracles happen.

Your bright future is already on its way.

You have a gift for seeing possibility in everything.

You make brave changes for the better.

You celebrate authenticity.

You listen to your heart, and the world thanks you for it.

You have an inner joy that spills out.

Your soul sparkles.

You throw open the doors of opportunity.

You’re a big part of what’s good and right in the world.

You’re loved for everything you are and all that you’re becoming.

You bloom with courage and grace.

You are an inspiration.

You are beautiful.

I’m sure any or all of those things would be a great way to start their day.  Give them the gift of knowing how special they are to you.

Happy Mother’s Day Mum! Thank you for…

We’re all eternally grateful for our mothers, that goes without saying, but perhaps it isn’t said enough!  With Mother’s Day fast approaching on Sunday 8th May, we thought we’d share a few tips on how to say thank you.

After you write ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ on her card, maybe the next should be ‘thank you’, but don’t leave it at that.  I’m sure there’s something that you really do want to thank her for, a reason for your gratitude that when put down in a card, is sure to be a sentimental keepsake for her.

Is it for something she’s done for you lately that made you feel supported and loved?  Perhaps you’ve recently become a parent yourself and are realising just how much she has done for you.  Maybe it’s for all the little things she’s taught you that you appreciate as an adult – her teaching you how to swim or how to cook. Maybe these were times spent together that you’ve got such fond memories of.  Maybe it was her showing you how to be a loving person, to say sorry, to be honest – these are traits I’m sure you’re a better person for learning.

Thank you can also be said in so many ways – in fact, five – they are love languages.  You can say it – this is ‘words of affirmation’, you can show it – this is ‘acts of service’ – maybe you could be the one to cook her dinner?!  ‘Quality time’ and ‘physical touch’ can be a giant bear hug and spending the day with her.  And then there’s ‘gift giving’ – one which we’re very well versed in.  Check out our Mother’s Day range and choose from one of the very many gorgeous gifts we have on offer.  From fresh flowers and living gifts to pamper hampers and sweet treats that will leave her in no doubt at all, how very special she is to you.

We wish all the mothers out there, a very special, very happy Mother’s Day!
